Perfume Buying Guide Nepal: How to Choose, What to Pay and Where to Buy Original

Perfume buying guide Nepal: how to choose, what a bottle costs per ml, how to check it's genuine, and when to buy online or at our Pokhara counter.

Perfume buying guide Nepal in one paragraph: choose a scent family you already like, test it on your own skin rather than on paper, compare the price per millilitre rather than the sticker, inspect the bottle for the things that can be inspected, pick attar or spray to suit the weather, and buy from someone you can reach if the parcel is wrong. At the Shahi Aroma counter in Pokhara a 50 ml bottle costs Rs. 1,500, Rs. 2,100 or Rs. 2,900 depending on the composition, and a 6 ml attar starts at Rs. 500.

Perfume Buying Guide Nepal: The Short Route From Choosing to Checkout

This page is the hub for a set of shorter guides, and each stage below points to the one that goes deeper. The route runs through choosing, prices, longevity, attar against spray, fakes, buying online and buying in Pokhara. Read it once from the top, or jump to the stage where you are stuck.

One limit before you start: no guide can tell you what a perfume does on your skin. Everything here narrows the field. The final decision happens on your own wrist, a few hours after you spray.

  1. Choose a scent family by reading the notes, not the name.
  2. Price it per millilitre, not per bottle.
  3. Check longevity against Pokhara's monsoon, heat and cold.
  4. Pick attar or spray for how and where you will wear it.
  5. Inspect the bottle and question the seller before you pay.
  6. Decide between ordering online and standing at a counter.

How to choose a perfume in Nepal

Start with what you already like to smell, not with a name on a box. If you reach for fresh citrus, for fruit over flowers, or for something sweet and warm, that tells you more than any ranking. Every perfume is built in three layers: top notes you smell in the first minutes, heart notes that carry the middle hours, and base notes that stay after the rest has gone. Our explainer on top, heart and base notes covers the layers in full.

Read the base first

Every Shahi Aroma product page lists top, heart and base notes. Read the base line first, because it is what you will still smell at the end of the day. A base of musk, cedar and sandalwood reads woody and soft. Vanilla, tonka bean and amber read sweet and warm. Moss and driftwood read dry and clean. Then look at the top: citrus, mint or sea notes will smell fresh for the first hour, while saffron, cinnamon or pepper will smell spiced.

A few starting points, with who they are made for

  • Frozen For Her (for her): sea notes, calone, green mandarin and lotus over musk, vanilla, amber and sandalwood. Fresh and clean.
  • Frozen For Him (for him): peppermint, lavender and rosemary over musk, tobacco, oakmoss and amber.
  • Jasmine Delight (for her): peach, apricot and pear over a jasmine and sandalwood heart, with vanilla, cedar and musk underneath.
  • Marine King (unisex): melon, pear, bergamot and cardamom over jasmine, violet and peony, resting on musk, cedar, patchouli and vanilla.
  • Glacier (unisex): apple, Italian lemon, Sicilian bergamot and star anise over musk, amber, driftwood and moss.
  • Sultan (unisex): saffron, rose, oak moss, lavender and citrus over oud, amber, patchouli and white musk.
  • Wicked Sunny (for him): lavender, mint, cardamom and bergamot over cinnamon and orange blossom, with vanilla, tonka bean, amber, sandalwood and cedar at the base.

Day, evening and who it is for

From our own experience at the counter, and not from a measurement: fresh, citrus and marine compositions read best in the daytime, and warmer, sweeter or woodier ones read best in the evening and in cooler months. Gender labels are a starting point. Several of our unisex compositions are worn by both, and our unisex guide shows how they differ on him and on her.

For fuller lists by price, read the men's and unisex scents, by price and the women's picks by occasion and budget. The wider honest buyer's guide to perfume in Nepal is the hub for the choosing stage, and the wrist-test walkthrough covers the testing routine step by step.

When you test, spray once on skin, not on paper. Paper holds the top notes and hides how the base meets your skin. Then walk away for a few hours, because the top notes fade first and the base is what you are actually buying.

What a bottle costs: prices by size and per ml

Prices are easier to compare once you divide by volume. Our catalogue lists perfumes in 50 ml and 100 ml, and attars in 6 ml. There is no 5 ml or 10 ml perfume size, so none appears below.

Type and price bandSizePricePrice per ml
Perfume, first band50 mlRs. 1,500Rs. 30
Perfume, first band100 mlRs. 3,000Rs. 30
Perfume, second band50 mlRs. 2,100Rs. 42
Perfume, second band100 mlRs. 2,100Rs. 21
Perfume, third band50 mlRs. 2,900Rs. 58
Perfume, third band100 mlRs. 2,900Rs. 29
Attar, first band6 mlRs. 500about Rs. 83
Attar, second band6 mlRs. 800about Rs. 133
Attar, third band6 mlRs. 1,200Rs. 200

Read the table two ways. In the first band, 100 ml costs exactly twice the 50 ml, so the price per ml is the same. In the second and third bands the catalogue lists the same rupee figure for both sizes, so the larger bottle is cheaper per ml: Rs. 21 against Rs. 42, and Rs. 29 against Rs. 58. Check the size selected on the product page before you pay, so you know which one you are buying.

Attar is different arithmetic. The per-ml figure is higher, but you dab a drop or two rather than spraying, so per-ml comparison across the two formats says little about cost per wear. The full breakdown, with more sizes and examples, is in our perfume price guide for Nepal, and the Pokhara version adds price per ml for the counter.

Refills and what we cannot tell you

Empty Shahi Aroma flacons can be refilled at a price below new glass. The catalogue lists no refill or decant figure, so we print none here; ask at the counter or on WhatsApp for the number that applies to your bottle. We also do not quote a national average for other shops' bottles, because we have not measured one. The only fair comparison on this page is against our own ladder.

Longevity: how long perfume lasts in Pokhara's monsoon and winter

How long a perfume lasts depends on three things: its concentration, your skin, and the weather you wear it in. Wikipedia's perfume entry gives the usual ranges: parfum or extrait at 15–30% aromatic compounds, eau de parfum at 15–20%, eau de toilette at 5–15%, and eau de cologne at 2–3%.

Concentration and hours

The same source puts typical persistence at about two hours for a cologne, two to four hours for an eau de toilette, and up to six to eight hours for a perfume. Treat these as general figures, not promises for any Shahi Aroma product. Our post on eau de parfum, eau de toilette and attar explains what each level means in practice.

Your skin

Dry skin holds fragrance for less time than oilier skin, and spicy or fatty food can intensify a scent. So two people can wear the same bottle and report different afternoons. If your skin runs oily and a scent turns sharp by afternoon, this guide to oily and dry skin in Pokhara has more.

Pokhara's weather

According to Wikipedia's Pokhara entry, the city sits at about 822 m with a humid subtropical climate. The monsoon runs June to September, annual rainfall is about 3,350 mm in the city, and nearby Lumle gets over 5,600 mm. Summer highs run 25–35°C, winters roughly −2°C to 15°C, the record high is 38.5°C (4 May 2013), and the valley gets no snow.

What that means for scent is our own experience, not a measurement. In monsoon humidity and pre-monsoon heat, fresh, citrus and marine compositions such as Glacier or Citrus Fresh tend to stay pleasant, while heavy sweet ones can feel thick. In the cooler months, woody and musky bases such as Smokey Oud come into their own. Our longer guides on which compositions survive heat and humidity and how cedar, sandalwood, vetiver and oud wear in Pokhara's heat go deeper. The house also blends its compositions in Pokhara and lets them rest before sale, which we describe in why we let a fragrance rest.

How much to wear, and how to store it

For sprays, a few sprays on pulse points such as the wrists and the sides of the neck is a sensible start. Two to four is a starting point, not a rule; adjust after you see how the scent behaves on you. For storage, keep bottles in the box, out of direct sunlight, and away from the bathroom's heat and damp. That is general practice rather than a study result, and our storage guide and the humid-weather longevity tips cover it in more detail.

Attar or spray: which one to buy

Attar is oil-based and alcohol-free. A spray perfume is alcohol-based. That single difference changes how you apply it, how it sits on the skin and who it suits.

A spray covers more skin quickly and is easy to reapply, which suits a warm walk along the lakeside. An attar is dabbed on, sits close to the skin, and comes in small 6 ml bottles, which makes it easy to carry. If you need an alcohol-free product for prayer, read the alcohol-free attar guide first, because the rule depends on what the alcohol was made from. For strength and longevity side by side, attar against perfume is the deeper read, and attar in Pokhara covers price per ml.

We do not link individual attar products from this page. If you want an attar, contact us and tell us which spray composition you like, and we will tell you what is available.

Fake perfume: what you can check before you pay

Every seller writes "100% genuine". The phrase costs nothing. What you can check on the bottle in your hand is worth more.

The inspection list

  1. Box print and spelling. Blurred print, misaligned logos and spelling mistakes are a warning.
  2. Batch code. There should be one on the box and one on the bottle, and they should match.
  3. Cap fit. The cap should sit properly, not loose or crooked.
  4. Sprayer. It should produce a fine, even mist, not a dribble or a jet.
  5. Liquid. Colour and fill level should look consistent with the product.

No single check settles it. Use them together, and read how to spot a fake perfume in Nepal for the longer version.

Questions to ask the seller

Ask where the stock comes from. Ask what happens if the bottle turns out to be wrong, and ask for the returns terms in writing before you pay. A seller who answers plainly is a better sign than any banner. Our post on counter testing against marketplace sellers lists what to check before you hand over money.

How this works for our own bottles

Shahi Aroma blends its own perfumes and attars in Pokhara. Our compositions are described as inspired by familiar styles, and we do not sell any designer house's product. So the question to ask us is not "is this a real designer bottle" but "is this what you say it is". Come to the counter, see the bottle, and test it on your skin. Our post on inspired-by perfumes explains what you are paying for.

Buying perfume online in Nepal

Buying online works if you know what to check and what happens when something goes wrong. You cannot test the scent through a screen, so lean on the notes list, the size and the price shown for each size.

Payment and delivery

You can pay by cash on delivery, eSewa, or Checkout by Fonepay, which takes a QR code from any mobile banking app. Orders are dispatched in 1–2 working days. Delivery is same or next day inside Pokhara, 2–4 days to the Kathmandu valley, and 3–7 days elsewhere. Any delivery charge is shown at checkout, so you see it before you pay. The online buying guide and the Pokhara delivery guide cover each option.

What to check on the listing

A good listing shows the notes, the sizes with a price for each, and a phone number you can call. If the listing shows only a photograph and "100% genuine", you know less than you should. Message the seller a question before ordering and see how they answer.

If the parcel is wrong

Photograph the parcel before you open it, then the box and the bottle. Message the seller the same day with the photographs. For Shahi Aroma orders, use WhatsApp on +977 9712023800. Ask any seller, us included, for the returns terms before you pay, not after.

Buying perfume in Pokhara: the counter, gifts and budgets

The counter gives you what a screen cannot: the scent on your skin, a few hours to decide, and someone to ask. It is also the fastest route to a bottle, because you leave with it.

Questions people ask

How do I know if a perfume is original or fake?

Inspect what you can: box print and spelling, a batch code on both box and bottle that match, a cap that fits, a sprayer that gives a fine even mist, and consistent liquid colour and fill level. Then ask the seller where the stock comes from and what the returns terms are. Our own compositions are blended in Pokhara, and we do not sell any designer house's product.

How much does an original perfume cost in Nepal?

We cannot quote a national figure for designer bottles, because we have not measured one. Shahi Aroma's own perfumes cost Rs. 1,500, Rs. 2,100 or Rs. 2,900 for 50 ml, and up to Rs. 3,000 for 100 ml, with attars from Rs. 500 for 6 ml. Compare any bottle by price per ml, as in the table above.

Is it safe to buy perfume online in Nepal?

It is safe if the seller answers questions plainly and shows the notes, sizes and a price for each size. Choose a seller with a phone number and clear returns terms, and pay cash on delivery if you want to see the parcel first. We deliver nationwide: 3–7 days outside Pokhara and the Kathmandu valley, and 2–4 days to the valley itself.

Which is better, attar or perfume spray?

Neither is better in every case. Spray is alcohol-based and covers more skin quickly, while attar is oil-based, alcohol-free and sits close to the skin. Pick attar if you need alcohol-free, and spray if you want easy, wider coverage. Attar vs perfume compares them in full.

How long should a perfume last, and how many sprays should I wear?

General figures put a cologne at about two hours, an eau de toilette at two to four, and a perfume at up to six to eight, but your skin and the weather change that. Start with two to four sprays on the wrists and neck, then adjust. Dry skin holds scent for less time than oilier skin.

The short version

Choose by notes, compare by price per ml, inspect the bottle and question the seller, and test on your skin for a few hours before you decide. Read the honest buyer's guide to perfume in Nepal if you are still choosing.
