How Many Sprays of Perfume, or Dabs of Attar, Is Enough in Nepal's Heat? A Pulse-Point Guide
How many sprays of perfume in Pokhara's heat? Two to three, or 1–2 attar dabs per pulse point. Point map, occasion table and cost per wear in Rs.

How many sprays of perfume is enough in Pokhara? Two to three on a hot day, and one or two drops of attar per pulse point. Western guides say three to five sprays, but that advice was written for cool, dry cities. Both numbers here are our recommendation, not a measured result, and we say so wherever the difference matters.
This guide gives spray perfume and attar their own counts and their own pulse-point maps, because one is alcohol-carried and the other is undiluted oil. It then covers what humidity does to a scent, a table of counts for local occasions, when to layer the two, and what each count costs in rupees.
How Many Sprays of Perfume Is Enough in Pokhara's Heat?
Start with two sprays and add a third only if the day is cool or your skin is dry. For a lighter, citrus-led scent, one or two sprays is often plenty. For attar, use one or two drops per point and two to four dabs in total.

- Spray perfume, hot or humid day: 2 sprays, 3 at most.
- Spray perfume, cool evening or dry winter morning: 3 sprays.
- Attar, any day: 1–2 drops per point, 2–4 dabs in total.
The Western range of 3–5 sprays assumes a scent that fades quickly in dry air. Humid heat does the opposite. It pushes a fragrance outward, so the same number of sprays reads louder on a Lakeside afternoon than it would in a cold, dry city. That is why we cut the count rather than copy it.
Why Spray Perfume and Attar Need Different Counts
Spray perfume is fragrance oil dissolved in alcohol. Attar is the oil itself, traditionally distilled plant oil held in a base such as sandalwood oil and applied without alcohol. You cannot spray it, and a small amount goes a long way.

Alcohol-based fragrance is sold in bands by oil concentration, as set out on Wikipedia's perfume page. Our post on eau de parfum, eau de toilette and attar covers the same ground in more detail.
| Type | Oil concentration | Typical |
|---|---|---|
| Eau de toilette | 5–15% | about 10% |
| Eau de parfum | 10–20% | about 15% |
| Extrait / parfum | 15–30% | varies |
| Attar | essentially undiluted oil | no alcohol |
Two cautions. First, a label such as "EDP" describes strength, not safety: IFRA sets limits on individual ingredients, not on the concentration category. Second, "one spray" is not a fixed unit. A typical atomizer delivers roughly 0.1 ml, but that is a trade figure and varies from one atomizer to the next. We have not counted the output of ours, so every per-bottle number below is arithmetic from that estimate, not a measurement. For the strength of a specific blend, ask at the counter.
Pulse-Point Map for Spray Perfume
Pulse points are warm spots where blood vessels run close to the skin. The warmth lifts the fragrance off the skin steadily, which is why perfume is sprayed there rather than on a cold forearm. In heat, you get that lift almost everywhere, so you need fewer points than the guides list.

| Point | Sprays | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Sides of the neck | 1 | Keep this one on hot days. |
| Inner wrist | 1 | Keep this one on hot days. |
| Inner elbow | 1 | Add on cool days. |
| Sternum | 1 | Skip it under a hot layer, where fabric traps the scent. |
| Behind the knees | 1 | One perfumer suggests it so the scent rises as you walk. |
On a hot day, spray one on the neck and one on the inner wrist, and stop. In cool weather, add an elbow or a third point.
Spraying clothes instead of skin
Hold the bottle 15–20 cm from a shirt collar or a scarf. Fabric holds scent longer than skin and does not react with sweat. Test a hidden spot first, because perfume can stain silk and light-coloured cloth. This is common advice, not something we have tested on every fabric.
How to Dab Attar on Pulse Points
Put one or two drops on a fingertip, touch it to the point, and let it sit. Use the inner wrists, behind the ears, the base of the throat and the inner elbows. Two to four dabs in total is the whole job.

Dab, do not rub. Rubbing your wrists together is commonly said to break down the top notes. That is habit-level advice, not proven, but it costs you nothing to avoid it.
A lighter hand for oud and musk
Strong oud and musk attars need less than floral or citrus ones. Take the low end, one dab per point, and add only after ten minutes if you cannot smell it. Our attar versus perfume post explains the difference in how they wear. Attar is not sold through product pages on this site, so contact us to ask what is available.
Why Perfume Smells Stronger and Sweeter in Pokhara's Humid Heat
Sweet, resinous and musky scents bloom faster and read stronger in humid heat. That is widely reported trade advice, not a Shahi Aroma test. It explains why a bottle that smelled balanced in winter turns sweet in July.

Vanilla King is the clearest example in our list: vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin and myrrh under cinnamon and nutmeg. It is a scent that can fill a room in monsoon humidity, so give it two sprays at most. Sweet Lime, with lime, lemon and bergamot on top, is the opposite kind of scent and forgives a heavier hand.
Season by season
- Monsoon and hot afternoons: the bottom of the range, on fewer points.
- Cool evenings by the lake: the middle of the range as the air cools.
- Dry winter mornings: the top of the range. Dry skin holds fragrance less well than oilier skin, so it may need the extra spray.
If you want a scent to last without adding sprays, see how to make perfume last longer in humid weather. For which compositions hold up, read long-lasting perfume in Nepal. We have not measured altitude effects, so we make no claim about them.
Counts by Occasion: Office, Temple, Wedding and Lakeside Evening
These are suggestions from us, not test results. Adjust for your skin and the day.

| Occasion | Sprays | Attar dabs | Perfume to try |
|---|---|---|---|
| Office, closed AC room | 2 | 1–2 | Citrus Fresh |
| Temple visit | 1 | 1 | Classic Musk |
| Wedding, outdoors and crowded | 3 (top of the range) | 3–4 | Smokey Oud |
| Lakeside evening | 2–3 as it cools | 2–3 | Vanilla King |
The temple gets the lightest count because incense and crowds are already close. A wedding gets the most because it is outdoors, crowded and long. Browse the full range under perfume, or read our picks in wedding day perfume for bride and groom.
Wearing Attar and Spray Perfume Together
Yes, they can share pulse points, but layering both on the same spot is where the cloying result comes from. Keep it simple: one attar dab on each wrist, and spray only the neck or your clothes.
Layer only within one scent family, such as Classic Musk perfume with Classic Musk Attar. Mixing families is a personal call, and no guide can make it for you.
What Each Count Costs You
These are estimates. They use the catalogue price and the rough 0.1 ml per spray figure, and they ignore the sprays lost when you first prime the pump. Classic Musk is Rs. 1,500 for 50 ml and Rs. 3,000 for 100 ml, which is Rs. 30 per ml either way.
| Count | Estimated cost per wear |
|---|---|
| 2 sprays (about 0.2 ml) | about Rs. 6 |
| 3 sprays (about 0.3 ml) | about Rs. 9 |
At that rate a 50 ml bottle holds about 500 sprays, or roughly 166 days at three sprays a day. The 100 ml bottle doubles both figures.
Attar is harder to price per wear. Classic Musk Attar is Rs. 500 for 6 ml, about Rs. 83 per ml. Smokey Oud Attar is Rs. 1,200 for 6 ml, Rs. 200 per ml. That is far more per ml than spray, but you use drops. Nobody here has counted how many dabs a 6 ml bottle gives, so we will not invent a per-dab figure. Count your own and divide.

Questions People Ask
How many sprays should I wear every day?
Two on a hot or humid day, three on a cool one. Add a third only if you cannot smell it after ten minutes.
How many is too many in hot, humid weather?
Four sprays or more is too many. Heat and humidity make sweet, resinous and musky scents read stronger, so a count that works in winter can overwhelm people around you in monsoon.
How many drops of attar do I put on each pulse point?
One or two, and two to four dabs in total. Use one drop per point for oud and musk attars.
Should I rub my wrists together?
No. Press or dab and leave it. Rubbing is commonly said to break down the top notes, so it is a habit to skip.
Is it better to spray skin or clothes when it's humid?
Clothes hold scent longer and do not react with sweat, so spray a collar or scarf from 15–20 cm away. Test a hidden spot first, since perfume can stain silk and light fabrics.
The Short Version
Use two to three sprays of perfume, or one or two attar dabs per point, and use fewer points in humid heat. Take the top of the range only in dry, cool weather or on dry skin.
